Microsoft, Yahoo Pact Cleared In Canada, Australia
By John Letzing

SAN FRANCISCO -- Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday that its high-profile search and advertising partnership with Yahoo Inc. has been cleared by antitrust regulators in Canada and Australia. "Microsoft and Yahoo have been notified that Australian and Canadian authorities have separately concluded their reviews and have no objections to our proposed search agreement," Microsoft said in a statement, adding that it still hopes to close the deal early next year. The pact, which would have Microsoft powering Yahoo's Internet search in an effort to team up on market leader Google Inc. , is currently being reviewed by antitrust regulators at the U.S. Justice Department.
