GE Focusing on Spin-Off of Consumer, Industrial Units
FOXBusiness
Corporate conglomerate General Electric said it is leaning toward spinning off its entire consumer and industrial businesses, which includes appliance, lighting and industrial units.
The news comes a month after Fairfield, Conn.-based GE (GE) announced its intent to sell the appliance business. Now GE said it is putting its primary focus on spinning off the both its consumer and industrial businesses while keeping other options alive.

"As we explored our options for Appliances, it became clear that the fastest, most efficient step we could take in completing the transformation of our Industrial portfolio would be to focus on a possible spin-off of the entire unit,” GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt said in a press release.
Immelt cited the "integrated processes, distribution and backroom operations" and the benefits of letting the business' employees and leadership "have the ability to control their own destiny."
GE's lighting unit, which would be included in a spin-off, invented the world's first incandescent light bulb in 1879. The company also makes its Energy Star household appliances like dishwashers with this business segment.
