Airline Stocks Decline With AMR, UAL

    NEW YORK - Airline stocks declined Tuesday after an industry trade group said the erosion in international premium-traveler accelerated for September from August. At last check, the NYSE Arca Airline Index fell less than 1% to 26.88 with all but two if its 13 components in the red. Shares of United parent UAL Corp. fell 1% to $7.42, American parent AMR Corp. fell 1% to $5.96 and Southwest declined 1.3% to $9.22. Trading up were U.S.-listed shares of Gol Linhas and Tam Sa . Earlier, the International Air Transport Association said the number of premium-paying passengersfell nearly 14% from a year ago for September, compared to a 12% decline in August.
