Merck Leads Drug Stocks Higher

BOSTON -- Merck led drug stocks higher early Wednesday as the pharmaceutical company marked its first day since its $41 billion merger with rival Schering-Plough Corp. The NYSE Arca Pharmaceutical Index rose 0.5% to 286.64 and the NYSE Arca Biotechnology Index climbed 0.8% to 880.91. Shares of Merck were up almost 3% at $41.46. Shares of Schering-Plough ceased trading Tuesday.
