Cardinal Health Swings To a Quarterly Loss

NEW YORK -- Cardinal Health Inc. swung to a third-quarter loss of $38.2 million, or 11 cents a share, compared to a year-ago profit of $249.1 million, or 69 cents a share, results showed Thursday. Revenue rose 6% to $24.8 billion from $23.4 billion. The Dublin, Ohio-based healthcare company said that excluding charges of 71 cents a share for restructuring, earnings from continuing operations would have been 54 cents a share in the most recent quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 43 cents a share on sales of $24.2 billion, on average. Shares of Cardinal Health closed Wednesday at $29.13.
