U.K. Shares Resume Trading, FTSE 100 Down 1.8%

LONDON -- British shares resumed trading on Thursday afternoon, with the FTSE 100 index down 1.8% at 5,265.81. Trading was halted during the morning due to technical issues. Banks were the biggest drag on the index, with HSBC Holdings down 4.3% and Standard Chartered shares down 3.9%, amid worries about Dubai debt exposure.
