By Robert Schroeder
MarketWatch Pulse
WASHINGTON -- Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said Wednesday that he wants the Federal Reserve to return to its "core functions" of monetary policy and being a lender of last resort. Dodd unveiled a reform bill on Tuesday that would give the Fed a much smaller role in banking oversight. He defended the bill in a CNBC interview on Wednesday and said he'd begin a bill-writing session in about three weeks.
