Old Mutual Life Sales Drop 4%
By Simon Kennedy
MarketWatch Pulse
LONDON -- U.K. insurer Old Mutual said Thursday that its life assurance sales in the third quarter dropped 4% to 326 million pounds ($540 million), while unit trust and mutual fund sales rose 47% to 1.7 billion pounds. The group said total funds under management rose 6% from a year earlier to 280.9 billion pounds. The group said that, excluding the U.S. business, where the sales decline was in line with its strategic plan, life assurance sales were broadly flat. It added that its capital position has also improved, with a pro-forma surplus at Sept. 30 of 1.4 billion pounds, compared to 1 billion pounds at the end of June.
