Financials Retreat, But Assured Guaranty Rallies

NEW YORK -- Shares of U.S. financial stocks retreated Tuesday as the broader market took a breather form big gains on Monday. Among the top decliners, insurer Lincoln National dropped about 1% after its CEO said a quick, robust economic recovery is unlikely. Huntington Bancshares and Zions Bancorp also were among the day's biggest decliners. On the upside, Assured Guaranty jumped 29% after it reported solid financial resulsts Monday afternoon. MBIA Inc , an Assured Guarante rival, also posted strong gains, rising 6%. In the broad financial sector, the Financial Select Sector SPDR fell 0.1%
