ConocoPhillips Posts Lower Quarterly Profit

NEW YORK -- ConocoPhillips said Wednesday that its third-quarter net income dropped 71% to $1.5 billion, or $1.00 a share, from $5.2 billion, or $3.39 a share, in the year-ago period. The Houston-based oil giant was expected to earn 95 cents a share, according to a survey of analysts by FactSet Research.
