Australian Shares Sink Early, With Resources Lower

LOS ANGELES -- Australian equities moved lower in early Friday action, as a negative lead from the U.S. and lower commodities prices combined to send Sydney's benchmark S&P/ASX 200 down 0.9% to 4,703.2. Miners and other resource-related stocks were among the loss-leaders, with Alumina Ltd. falling 2.4%, while BHP Billiton Ltd. moved 1.6% lower and rival Rio Tinto Ltd. was down 1.4%.
