Even if you don't think you do, you already know plenty about commodities. Want us to prove it? No problem.
What makes oil produced in Saudi Arabia different from oil exported from Nigeria? It's the same thing that makes the corn you ate at last summer¿s barbecue different from the corn used to produce ethanol. Stumped? Well, don't feel bad, it's a trick question. The answer? Absolutely nothing. Corn is corn no matter where it comes from -- just as wheat is wheat and natural gas is -- right! -- natural gas. (Though the quality may differ, the make-up is uniform.)
So, in less elaborate terms, corn and oil (and all other commodities) are homogenous goods that can be processed, resold and more often than not, used as an input to the production of other goods or services. These goods are traded on a commodity exchange, thus setting the price-per-barrel (or other metric unit) used to value them.
Now pay attention, here's a question that indeed does have an answer: What is the difference between a commodity and a stock? While a stock can tank and become worthless, a commodity cannot have its value be wiped to zero. One other difference: Most commodities are traded in futures, meaning traders buy and sell where they think the price of a product will be at a certain point in the future. Stocks trade based on the value of the underlying company at that point in time.

Here is a synopsis of today's Zacks Rank Buy Stocks:
Aggressive Growth - AU Optronics Corp. (NYSE: AUO)
AU Optronics' valuation is bordering on the absurd. A company growing strongly in a great market shouldn't be trading at less than 6x earnings. Estimates have increased 19 cents over the past month. Two of the five covering analysts have raised their numbers.

Momentum - JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: JASO)
JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. is operating in a very high-growth sector of the market, alternative energy. With the incredible amount of enthusiasm and speculation surrounding these companies, investors should expect anticipate abnormal amounts of volatility. JA's share price has rallied 100% in just the last two months, bottoming out on Mar 10 just above $12 and advancing to its current level right around $25. Based upon projected earnings, this is an expensive stock, but there is no question that it has plenty of momentum currently working in its favor.

Value - Tyco Electronics Limited (NYSE: TEL)
Tyco Electronics is best remembered by most investors for its former CEO Dennis Kozlowski, who was found guilty of grand larceny in 2005. But the company is now putting those days long behind it. Tyco has surprised on estimates three out of the last four quarters on average of 6.43%. Earnings per share rose 12% in the second quarter year over year. Tyco's forward P/E is 13.37.
