Early-Market Movers: Origin Agritech Limited, Ciena Corp

Stock futures were pointing to a higher opening following overnight gains by gold and oil.
Here are some of the early-market movers for Monday.
Origin Agritech Limited (SEED)
Shares of the Chinese seed and agricultural research company were up 40% in pre-market trading after announcing it had received a bio-safety certificate from the Chinese government for the world’s first genetically-modified phytase corn. The approval will lead the way to commercial approval of the corn, which will increase the breakdown of Phytic acid in seed corn increasing the phosphorus absorption in animals by 60%.
Financial Federal Corporation (FIF)
Shares jumped 37.7% in pre-market trading after it was announced the financial services company would be acquired by People's United Financial, Inc. (PBCT) in a stock and cash transaction valued at $738 million.
iBasics Inc. (IBAS)
Shares of the international telephone carrier were up 31.8% in pre-market trading after announcing it would be acquired by Royal KPN NV, the Netherlands' largest telecommunications company, which will end pending litigation between the two companies.
LDK Solar Company (LDK)
The solar power wafer manufacturer posted a surprise profit for the third-quarter sending shares up 14.7% in pre-market trading. The company reported earnings of 27 cents per share on revenue of $281.9 million. Analysts had been expecting a loss of 10 cents per share on revenue of $277.20 million.
Cephalon Inc (CEPH)
The biopharmaceutical company announced that in a trial of its Cinquil treatment for pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis were positive, there was no statistically significant differences than with the placebo group. Shares were down 9.41% in pre-market trading.
Ciena Corp (CIEN)
Ciena beat out Nokia Siemens Networks in an auction to acquire to buy the optical networking and carrier ethernet business of bankrupt Nortel for $769 million. Shares of Ciena were down 6.2% in pre-market trading.
