Irving Grousbeck, managing partner of the Boston Celtics, told Fox Business’ Liz Claman that the team’s recent resurgence came because of “good people, and a lot of patience.”

The interview was part of Fox Business’ three-day series “Three Days in the Valley.”

Grousbeck was part of a group of investors who bought the basketball team in 2002. He said the Celtics, which had 20-plus years of mediocre performance, was able to rebound because “you hire good people, let them do a good job and be patient.”

The Celtics finished No. 1 in their division this season, and are currently 2-0 against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.

“It took five years--and that’s a long time in the world of sports--but we did it,” he said.

Grousbeck said despite the Celtics rise to the top, he would not consider selling the team.

“We’re here for good,” he said. “It’s not a purely financial investment--it’s an emotional investment. We brought this troubled franchise back to glory.”
