Union: BHP Deal Meets Our Needs
By Darryl R. Isherwood
FOXBusiness
The contract offered by BHP Billiton (BHP) to workers at Chile’s Escondida copper mine meets employees needs, the head of the union told Reuters Friday.
Union head Zeiso Mercado told Reuters the offer was “interesting” and workers will decide on it next week. The union has about 2,250 members.
BHP started early talks with union leaders to avoid a work stoppage like the 25-day strike after the last negotiation in 2006.
