China Ministry: Willing To Improve Economic, Trade Ties With US
Dow Jones Newswires
BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China said Tuesday it is willing to improve economic and trade ties with the U.S., remarks that contrast with the growing economic and diplomatic tensions between the two sides.
Ministry of Commerce spokesman Yao Jian also urged the U.S. to relax its limits on exporting high-technology goods to China.
Yao, who was speaking at a regular news conference, said China will actively promote trade this year and has plans to send a trade delegation to South America in April. Another delegation is leaving for Europe on Wednesday.
The ministry said in a statement it expects China's trade to be more balanced this year. China will work to increase its imports this year, with a focus on equipment, parts and materials that are in strong demand.
It said the research and innovation of foreign companies are strategically important in helping China's transition from being a manufacturing base to a center for both manufacturing and innovation.
