Just like you never want to hear a doctor say "oops" in the operating room, you never want to see a going-concern statement
in a financial report about a company you own. Accountants throw these in when they've been over the books, talked to customers,
and checked the horoscopes and have concluded there is "substantial doubt" about a company's ability to remain in business.
In short, don't blame the accountants if the company files for bankruptcy protection.
You¿d reckon that a going-concern
statement would be enough to send investors running to the exits, but it's not. True, many large institutions automatically
bail when an existing company gets slapped with one of these, but many individuals (often wrongly) take a chance they know
more than the bean counters.
During the tech boom of the late 1990s, many companies actually went public even though they had been hit with going-concern statements. Many of those companies subsequently disappeared. Enough said.

Cavuto: Putin is Staying for More Than Just Dinner

Do any of you remember that old Saturday night skit where the late John Belushi plays this guest from hell who refuses to leave a party, long after the party is over?
No matter how the hosts hinted, begged, and cajoled, old John just stays plopped on the couch...eating their food, ordering movies, even making long-distance phone calls, on their dime.
And the more they politely insist everyone else had left, so maybe it was time for him to as well...old John just sits there emptying a bowl of chips into his mouth.
Sadly, John's gone. So playing the updated guest from hell role in today's remake -- Vladimir Putin.
...the Russian leader who so loves his not-so-inviting host's country, he's decided to stay.
Sure, he "talks" about going home.
In fact, "says" he already is.
But he's not.
He's still on the Georgian couch ordering pay-per-view.
Which has now become, to the world, an alarming view.
A world that's done a lot more than drop polite hints.
It'd be like you and me hosting that party saying, if you don't go, we're going to throw a bucket of water on your head and give you the plug to our toaster as we're doing so.
Vlad won't move.
Maybe because he knows we won't move either.
So Vlad's glad.
We're not.
He's still there.
We're still steamed.
And everyone else is left scratching their heads, asking, "Surely this guy won't be here tomorrow morning when we wake up???"
My prediction and deal:
He will be.
So, we have a choice.
Carry him out.
Or carry him a tray of pancakes and sausage for breakfast.
Food for thought.
A feared domineering despot is staying...and for more than just dinner.
