Ummmm, Madam Speaker, about that health-care reform package???
Here's the deal.
That trillion-dollar health-care deal?
Maybe not a deal.
Or certainly not a trillion-dollar deal.
Because after the Democratic vote that didn't get out, the Democratic health-care package that now might not make it out.
That's what an off-off-year political bruising will do to you.
It humbles you.
Or at the very least, awakens you.
And to a Democratic leadership that had come to see things as pretty much their way or the highway, signs today their troops are taking the highway.
What self-respecting and increasingly antsy Democratic congressman "wouldn't" want to take another look at things?
And themselves?
Or support big spending when it appears voters have a big problem with it?
Or push big tax hikes on the rich when it appears voters fret you're targeting more than just the rich?
Who'd knowingly walk off a bridge when they discover just how long a way down it is?
Because that's the lowdown, my friends.
And that's why I think I can now calmly state the following:
They're all "going out of their minds" nuts!!!
And they're going to get nuttier.
And scarier.
And suddenly, cheaper.
You heard me right.
We've got a virus. And Washington's got the infection.
This variant of the "I-gotta-hang-onto-my-freakin'-suddenly-looking-risky" Congressional seat is now a pandemic.
Likely leading to sudden outbreaks in fiscal austerity.
And program accountability.
Early symptoms include a sudden revulsion to spending too much.
Or even suggesting hiking taxes much more.
Precipitants can include exposure to an electoral wave in at least two states.
And accompanying night sweats over the same happening across the other 48.
I'm not saying this is about saving our money.
More like, for the moment, these guys just saving their asses.
