TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Bank of Japan Gov. Masaaki Shirakawa said Friday the central bank aims to stimulate demand by maintaining a low interest-rate environment, but declined to comment on whether the central bank will take additional easing steps next week.
"The BOJ is trying to stimulate demand by keeping low interest rates," Shirakawa said in a parliamentary committee session.
Asked about the need to take additional easing steps at its two-day policy board meeting ending next week, Shirakawa declined to answer.
