Sounds kind of dirty, right? Actually, it's because of a clean visual that technical analysts use this term. Technical analysts like charts (hence their nickname of "chartists"), and they like to give certain patterns they see neat little names.
Such is the case with the double bottom, which looks on a chart like, well, a double bottom. Think of three mountains (on a chart reflecting a rise in values) separated by two valleys (representing dips in value). The troughs of the valleys, and the size of the first two peaks, are generally the same, so the chart looks like the letter 'W.' The appearance of those two valleys represents a double bottom.
So what? Well, if you're one of those folks who believes in the power of the charts, seeing a double bottom suggests a long-term trend is about to reverse. So, if a stock chart shows shares falling for several months, then seeing a double bottom, chances are good (according to the chartists) that the shares will rise. And vice versa.
But, beware: charts can be a great tool, but they're more art than science. Use any charts with caution.

M Resort, Spa and Casino Officials Unveil Innovative Design Features Aimed at Meeting and Conference Center Guests
Comtex
LAS VEGAS, May 5, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ ----Property officials at the M Resort, Spa and Casino, an all-new $1 billion resort to be completed in the spring of 2009 on South Las Vegas Boulevard, released new details about its luxury meeting and conference facilities today. The center, which already has events booked for 2009, consists of 60,000 square feet of dynamic spaces that offer unprecedented views of the world-famous Strip.
The resort offers multiple meeting rooms that can be divided to suit a variety of business needs, as well as an exquisite boardroom and sprawling ballroom with built-in stage that delivers flexible space and the latest in technology. Meeting and conference planners may also take advantage of the M Resort's event piazza, wine cellar - bar - tasting room, multi-level terraces and lounges as well as tap into the one-of-a-kind atmosphere and culinary expertise of their nine privately owned and operated restaurants.
"The M Resort Meeting and Conference spaces have been specially designed to cater to the needs of small to mid-sized meetings and events," says M Resort Founder, CEO and Chairman Anthony A. Marnell, III. "When we were designing the resort, we found that there was a lack of full-service conference facilities for medium-sized business events. Most of the convention space in the city is built to suit large-scale meetings and functions. M Resort will deliver a distinctly different experience that meets the needs of medium-sized business groups with personal hands-on service, quality and value."
The Villaggio del Sole Pool and Entertainment Piazza includes a built-in stage with an event capacity of 4,000. Conference attendees may enjoy the three outdoor terraces offering nearly 17,000 square feet of dining and entertainment space and the 2,000 square foot Canyon restaurant and entertainment lounge. A 5,000 square foot wine cellar and tasting room adds drama and a bit of flair to intimate events.
The resort has appointed William Conn, Vice President of Hotel Operations, Drew Varga, Executive Director of Meetings Sales and Gabe Kuti, Director of Meeting Sales. Leading M Resort's meeting sales and operations is Vice President of Hotel Operations William Conn. Mr. Conn brings more than a decade of experience in the hospitality industry to his role. "M Resort combines an intimate boutique setting with impeccable service and amenities to suit the needs of meeting professionals as well as incentive and leisure travelers," said Conn.
Born and raised in cosmopolitan Chicago, Conn's experience includes participating in the grand openings of Swiss Hotel, Fairmont and the Sheraton Hotel & Towers. He relocated to Las Vegas in 1993, accepting a position at Caesars Palace. Conn's operations background led him to be part of the pre-opening team at New York New York Hotel & Casino, followed by positions opening Paris Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino (formerly Aladdin Resort & Casino).
"William brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to M Resort. His operational background allows him to fully understand and support the sales effort and the special needs of meeting planners," said Marnell. "His commitment to delivering superior customer service is unmatched."
As Executive Director of Meeting Sales, Drew Varga will oversee corporate meeting and event sales at the M Resort. Prior to joining the resort, Varga served as Vice President of Sales for the Western region at Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah's Entertainment. He was responsible for the group sales effort for the seven Las Vegas properties in the Western portion of the country, in addition to union and diversity groups.
"We are excited to have Drew join our team. He brings extensive sales experience to the table as well as a commitment to personal, hands-on service, quality and value -- core philosophies that exemplify the M Resort," said Conn.
As Director of Meetings Sales, Gabe Kuti will be responsible for all group sales efforts and will also handle the entire operational side of M Resort's convention business. Kuti was national sales manager for Bally's and Paris Las Vegas at Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah's Entertainment, prior to joining the M Resort.
