China Minsheng's IPO Weighs On Hong Kong Shares

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong shares declined early Thursday with Chinese banking shares weighed down as a weak debut for China Minsheng Bank Corp. Ltd. hurt sentiment. The Hang Seng Index fell 0.6% to 22,477.90 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.8% to 13,345.88. Among banks, Bank of China Ltd. lost 0.7% and China Construction Bank Corp. fell 1.4%. Minsheng Bank shares started trade at 9.05 Hong Kong dollars ($1.17), below its IPO price at HK$9.08, after the bank raised $3.9 billion. The stock was recently at HK$9.02, with over 280 million shares having changed hands in the first few minutes of trading.
