By William L. Watts
MarketWatch Pulse
LONDON -- Alliant Energy Corp. said Friday that it swung to a third-quarter loss of $44.3 million, or 40 cents a share, from net income of $108.5 million, or 98 cents a share, in the same period last year. Excluding a one-time non-cash charge of $1.16 a share tied to a tender offer for exchangeable senior notes, the Madison, Wis.-based utility said it posted third-quarter earnings of 77 cents a share. A survey of three analysts by FactSet Research had produced a consensus forecast of 82 cents. Alliant said it now expects full-year earnings from continued operations of $1.75 to $1.90 a share, down from its previous forecast of $1.80 to $2.
