Small Biz Owner Weighs in on Cap and Trade

" Big piece of president Obama's agenda move forward today but not without Republican push back. The Senate environment and public works committee approved a cap and trade bill. Cosponsored by Barbara Boxer and John Kerry California and Massachusetts the bill passed committee with a ten to one vote but. GOP members Republicans sat out the vote saying it's all being too rushed. Meanwhile debate rages continuing on just how much such legislation is going to cost all of us particularly small businesses joining us now. Is David McArthur he's talked to -- before about how his small business could be affected by this legislation now. First of all I know executives David any residents anybody inside the beltway paying attention to your concerns. --"

And they're just suck in the life blood out of its nobody nobody is paying any attention to what the small businesspeople are trained in today's. Cap and trade issue what when you hear the president's and and his advisers say that that small and midsize businesses are the backbone of the candidates are. It what do you think is it just totally empty rhetoric. It's dead and you're dead on it is empty rhetoric. There's no one contractor and I mean there's no one contact in the chamber of commerce was there's no one contacting the National Federation of Independent Business. You hear nothing from the politicians in Washington right now. Talking directly to the people -- what the effects are really going to be when you when you draw this kinda money out of the people. That don't have the money in today's world. That's less money they're gonna spend it's -- business and those business. Cost increase in sales decrease. There's so many people out there today tens of thousands of small businesses teetering on the edge that it's going to be the it's going to be the final blow it's going to be the end form. Manufacturing in this country manufacturing in the midwest. You take energy prices up 40%. Hello China that's where the business is going to go around in just talk to them what how how do you David how big is your profit margin army would 40%. Increase in energy totally wipe out your profit margin. That we are not alone bakeries of our sides in the country we do approximately five million dollars a year between our three location. Our goal one and a half to 2% net at the end of year. While you gotta be a crazy investor to get involved in the business that we're in today. So you take your utility rates -- come up 40%. Do the math. And simple math David because what's happening in Fort Hood and I know you have great concerns about a military we have to truncate this. But I just going to ask what is the political cost going to be what are you going to do if cap and trade passes. Well below what we're going to do if we're gonna fight tooth and nail to stay alive. But what what you've done is we've stepped out of the box and a where in our district were supporting local -- and it's running for congress because we've got to make the changes in Washington and it's got to begin now.
