" They digital cameras on releasing -- new video service -- Amazon video on demand. And Johnny has now is latest review is Walt Mossberg Wall Street Journal personal technology columnist. He had been Washington DC law -- have you back we missed you terribly. It's great yeah -- What this service is kind of now down more hybrid of the kind of three types of services that are out there who want all over by apple iTunes through live. And then net flicks -- put this -- in perspective. Well."
" At first floor I think that it's very very important to note that. Every. Six months or so we see another big. Move. By the Internet companies to. Distribute regular commercial television shows and movies. And to gradually. Gradually attract people away from cable and satellite. You know this is early in that process but it's picking up steam and Amazon's joining this I think it's important because Amazon has is incredibly. Powerful and popular site and mom we. Talk about this being a hybrid. It's a hybrid and a couple of ways. You know most people know about iTunes. Where you. Hate her show there's no commercials. But you can only download the shows and watch them later there are some advantages to that. But you don't get the immediacy that -- if things like cool Lou. Where the shows are -- which I guess we should point out is partly owned by the owners of this network and have The Wall Street Journal but. Hui is is that you -- immediate gratification. It's streaming of shows right at you as if you turned on the TV. And the shows are free but you gotta watch commercials and he can't skip through. And that we have come another model with net flicks where. They've taken some of their very large catalog of dvds. Made them available on the Internet again they're free again -- no commercials which got to pay that Netflix subscription feet. What Amazon is doing is charging by the show like iTunes. No ads. But. They're giving of that instant gratification of streaming in this new video on demand service. What."
" Broadly speaking -- did you like it has not beef and using a lot of the services in in some of the ones that are now defunct. Is their content available isn't satisfactory. I won't more and is that one of them I guess drawbacks of the Amazon service."
" Yes well I should say they have 40000. Movies and TV episodes. Which is not bad. Compared to say the number of songs available on some like iTunes it's trivial. But it's not bad the difficulty. Is that I agree with you that. Some of things you most want you know the very latest movies the very. Even the ones from a few months ago. That were hits tend not to be available on Amazon or on many of these other services but that's not their fault that's the up all the Hollywood which has these rules that say you know movie starts with theater and then it. Goes to pay TV in the goes to dvd whatever and and this Internet stuff being new. Wasn't ever built into that system of what they called windows of distribution. I personally believe that will collapse. And that a lot of the steps gonna be available right away on these services like. Amazon's video on demand -- iTunes or whatever but we're not we're not there yet on TV. Same thing they don't quite have the windows system might describe. But I think that the studios are lit and the networks have been a little reluctant to release the major -- the material they should. One thing I've pointed that is I don't know if you're -- fan of the show I am. -- Paul met madman. On AMC it's a terrific show -- a bunch of Emmy nominations. It's in its second season. Amazon's service only has the first season. ITunes. Has both seasons so it's a little confusing for users and you have to kind of pick and choose based on what. Your business you know what your budget is what your preferences are and what your favorite shows are."
" And if you'd like watching it on the television again you need a piece of hardware day not this one is it bill brought its 299 dollar device. Right."
" And we still that connection between the Internet distribution the television. Is still difficult. They're the Amazon's service only works on Sony TV's. With 8299. Dollar Robbie adapter but I assume that they'll do deals. With other companies that will eventually allow it to work on other adapters. Also I have to say -- date and that. A lot of the new high Def televisions that will be out in the coming year. We're gonna have built in. Ethernet adapter boxes that may have a chance of letting you watch this stuff directly."
" And I can't wait to talking about back on the TV junkie in the biggest way you want I didn't want to mention really quickly. The new establishment 2008 list and -- fair. You're number 100. Congratulate. What. Out of 100 let's point -- you while you're on the list that's terrific miss Weller who. Thank you so much for being here luckily we're we're lucky occasionally you get to come we get to see everywhere at Walt Mossberg on The Wall Street Journal thank you again Walt. Thanks."
