Where the Jobs are this Holiday Season

'Tis the season for making some extra money, and this is a time when, if you are looking for full-time work and haven’t had any luck, you can make a little extra money to get you by for the next few months.  Seasonal jobs, mostly in retail, are a great way for college students and also retired individuals to make a little extra fun money for the holidays. Some of these positions will also be full-time, if that is something you are looking for. Plus, think of the discount when you work at these stores!

TOYS “R” US - the world’s leading dedicated toy and juvenile-products retailer. *Plans to hire 45,000 seasonal employees to staff its stores and distribution centers across the country this holiday season *This is up 15% from 2011 when it hired 40,000 *Top Jobs: Management, Sales, Inventory, Omnichannel Team *Hiring began at the end of September and will continue through December *Seasonal positions have the potential to become full time positions---last year approximately 15% of holiday workforce became full-time workers *There are 876 Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores in the United States and Puerto Rico and the company employs approximately 70,000 associates annually worldwide

KOHL’S - American department store chain, 4th-largest U.S. department store by sales *Plans to hire more than 52,700 associates this holiday season (about 41 associates per store) plus an additional 5,700 at distribution centers and more than 30 in credit operations. *This is up more than 10% from last year *Top Jobs: Sales, Stocking, Freight Processing *Began hiring in September and expects to continue hiring through November. Seasonal workers can work anywhere from a few hours to over 20 hours per week *Kohl’s has been recognized by the National Retail Federation for its customer service *Kohl’s has 1,146 stores (including 12 that just opened in September) in 49 states

DOMINO’S PIZZA – an international pizza delivery corporation, the 2nd-largest pizza chain in the U.S. *Each store is expected to hire between 1-5 people per store (so somewhere between 5,000-25,000 people) *Top Jobs: Customer Service Reps (aka Order Taker), Delivery Drivers, Pizza Makers *Will be hiring throughout the busy season *Also extremely busy on NYE, the Super Bowl (the #1 busiest day!), and the winter sports season *Seasonal positions can become permanent, and it's actually encouraged *Has more than 10,000 corporate and franchised stores in 70 countries and all 50 states

GAMESTOP – American video game and entertainment software retailer. *Hiring 17,000 seasonal employees this year, both full-time and part-time positions. Also plans to open about 80 holiday stores aimed at younger kids which may become permanent *Top Jobs: Sales *Will evaluate performance and leave the option open to keep associates on going into next year. *GameStop will end its seasonal hiring within the next 2 weeks. *Has been extremely focused on military hiring this year and has held 60 hiring events targeting military veterans and families within the last 18 months. *Has 6,627 company-operated stores in 17 countries worldwide

MACY’S – Department store holding company and owner of Macy's and Bloomingdale's department stores. *Plans to hire approximately 80,000 seasonal associates for its Macy’s and    Bloomingdale’s stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide *This is about a 2.5% increase from the 2011 seasonal hiring plans of about 78,000 *Top jobs: Sales, Store Operations, Customer Service, Shipping & Distribution *In some cases, temporary seasonal associates are offered open year-round positions based on their skills and performance over the holiday season *Hiring for store sales positions began in mid-October and will continue through December *Macy's employs about 175,000 associates on a year-round basis. Owns about 840 department stores in 45 states, DC, Guam & Puerto Rico.
