Obama Would Veto House Republican Spending Cut Bill

U.S. President Barack Obama will veto a legislative spending bill if it cuts programs that would drive long-term economic growth or create jobs, the White House said on Tuesday.

The threat was made against a House of Representatives bill that would fund government agencies for the current fiscal bill. Obama will veto the bill if it undermines critical priorities or national security, contains earmarks, or curtails drivers of long-term economic growth and job creation, the White House said.

In its statement of policy on the full-year appropriations act, the White House said the Obama administration strongly opposed the House's passage.
