Magazines on iPad
Those of you preparing to buy Apple's (AAPL) new iPad as soon as it's released will have the option of reading Conde Nast magazines on your new device. Wired, Glamour, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and GQ will be among the first magazines available on Apple's iPad. And Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of News Corp (NWSA), the parent company of FOX Business Network, says the Wall Street Journal will also be offered on the iPad.
We told you about using Groupon and Yipit to find group discounts. Now there's a West Coast group buying website called SocialBuy, available for deal-seekers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle, and Portland. SocialBuy is working with local services, restaurants, hotels, and retailers that normally don't offer discounts to offer groups some great deals. The site offers new discounted activities on a daily basis so check out socialbuy.com and see if it has anything that interests you. (And if you refer friends, you get $10 in "Social Bucks" to use towards your next activity.)
Songs On the Go
Thumbplay Music is moving out of Private Beta to offer everyone on demand access to millions of songs to download directly to their smartphones. Thumbplay Music first launched on an invitation-only basis at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, with all four major labels -- Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music -- taking part in the launch. There are some independent labels available, too. Thumbplay Music has an in-app media player, making it easy for you to search and access any song at any time. Thumbplay's 'Favorites' feature lets you synchronize your playlists between your smartphone and your desktop, and works with iTunes. Learn more at Thumbplay.com.
Shop for Charity
A new mobile application lets you donate to your favorite charity while you shop. The CauseWorld app works with iPhone and Android, using the smartphone's GPS to locate participating CauseWorld stores nearby. When you visit one of those stores, the app registers so-called "karma points" that you can use to donate to charities. CauseWorld advertisers keep track of these "karma points" and donate accordingly to one of 15 charities. Go to apple.com to download the app.
