The Sunshine Act
My older brother, who used to hold me down and torture me, has finally seen the light. Okay, he was ten; I was five; and it wasn't really "torture," but he did go on to become another one of those ivy league socialists. At Princeton and Harvard, they taught him that business was nasty and that government needed to create an "orderly marketplace."

"Free" Wheelchairs
Medicare is going broke, but almost no one wants to cut any of it.
When Congressman Paul Ryan proposed tiny cuts, he was attacked for wanting to "throw granny off a cliff."... continue reading »

Government Healthcare Gone Wrong (Tonight at 10PM on FBN)
This week I report on Obamacare, government-run healthcare in general, and their unintended consequences.
Companies advertise "free" scooters and power wheelchairs on TV. But nothing is really "free." In the end, taxpayers pay. Yet the U.S. Inspector General says many people who got $3,000 power wheelchairs you funded should not have gotten them... continue reading »

This Week's Column: Congress Can't Repeal Economics
The unintended (yet wholly predictable) consequences for Obamacare have been rolling in, as new features of the law go into effect. In this week's syndicated column, I explain why the laws of economics cannot be repealed, no matter what the president promises.
Health insurers Wellpoint, Cigna, Aetna, Humana and CoventryOne will stop writing policies for all children. Why?... continue reading »

Latest Unintended Consequence of Obamacare: McDonalds May Drop Health Plans for Workers
Today’s Wall Street Journal reports that McDonalds “warned federal regulators that it could drop its health insurance plan for nearly 30,000 hourly restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the U.S. health overhaul.” Why?... continue reading »

The Massachusetts Health-Care 'Train Wreck'
I just bought a home in Massachusetts. Damn. In today’s WSJ, Joseph Rago points out that my state’s new health care mandate has raised costs, and will soon reduce choice. Obamacare will perform similar wonders on the rest of America
President Obama said earlier this year that the health-care bill that Congress passed three months ago is "essentially identical" to the Massachusetts universal coverage plan that then-Gov... continue reading »

A Glimpse of the Obamacare Future
When Obamacare was signed into law, I predicted that the ban on "discriminating" against anyone with a pre-existing condition would mean that only sick people will buy insurance. If insurance companies have to charge me the same for insurance whether I'm sick or not, I'd be a fool to buy insurance now. I'd be better off waiting until I get sick... continue reading »

Bogus Report Card Strikes Again
The Commonwealth Fund released yet another misleading study yesterday pretending to show that America has a worse healthcare system than six other countries, including Britain and Canada…which just happen to be the poster children of national healthcare.
“Most troubling, the U.S. fails to achieve better health outcomes than the other countries, and as shown in the earlier editions, the U.S... continue reading »

Republican Health Care
James P. Pinkerton makes good points about how Republicans might present a more optimistic health care policy. While Democrats redistribute,
“ more intelligent approach would be to think of the public’s demand for health care as an opportunity rather than a liability. Our economy is driven by the harmonious convergence of entrepreneurial exuberance and insatiable consumer demand... continue reading »

This is What Obamacare Looks Like
The Wall Street Journal reports this week on a threatening letter sent by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to insurance companies, regarding their upcoming bids for Medicare Advantage plans. (Medicare Advantage pays private insurers a set amount and typically the patient pays an additional premium.)
warned the companies not to increase premiums... continue reading »
