Bad Rules
My column this week looks at regulations that promote political correctness. I recently covered this issue at the University of North Carolina.
Many colleges now impose "civility codes." Civility is nice, but enforcing a "civility rule" against offensive speech would put an end to lots of useful provocative speech. As a University of North Carolina student put it, "A picture of Mitt Romney would offend 70 percent of residence hall students." ... continue reading »

Regulating Speech
Once again, as the Presidential election approaches, pundits are indignant about the influence money has on politics. In my syndicated column this week, I discuss the Supreme Court's decision to give free speech to corporations:

Stossel on the Road (3PM Saturday on FNC, 9PM Saturday & Sunday on FBN)
I'm on day 8 of my 20-day book tour to promote No They Can't.
It's exciting to see and hear people talking about why individuals succeed where government fails. My show tonight was filmed with an audience at Florida State University... continue reading »

Free Speech 101
If you believe that American universities are the bastions of free expression that they profess to be, think again.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has issued it's second annual list of America's worst colleges for free speech.
One example: The University of Cincinnati limits student demonstrations to one percent of the campus property.
Thankfully, organizations like FIRE protect students' basic rights.

Free Speech and Its Enemies
Should government forbid people from saying things viewed as hateful, or harassing? I cover that in my syndicated column today:
I once interviewed someone who said words are like bullets because words can wound; this justified some censorship in his eyes.
Ugly words in a workplace can indeed make it hard for someone to succeed at work, and racism in school can make it hard to learn. But I say words are words and bullets are bullets... continue reading »

Free Speech and its Enemies (Tonight at 10PM ET on FBN)
There are enemies of free speech. This week, I report on:
Colleges that ban students from speaking their minds and restrict professors from free expression.
NPR, which takes government funding, canned Juan Williams for being honest on ‘The O'Reilly Factor'.
And busybody politicians, who pass campaign finance "reform" laws that actually limit your free speech.
We should have vigorous, contentious debate about everything. And that includes topics that make people uncomfortable.
Free speech, and its enemies. That's our show this week.

I’m glad I live in America
Ezra Levant (as I reported in my Fox Special, “What’s Great About America”) was prosecuted for hate speech by the Canadian government for 900 days because he published the Danish Mohammad cartoons that sparked riots around the world... continue reading »

Web-Only Segment of Tonight's Show: You Can't Say That!
For my FBN show tonight, I held an "affirmative action bake sale." That made some people angry. But I was just doing what Bucknell University students like Kirby Thomas did to start a discussion on affirmative action policies, but the school shut them down. Hayden Barnes was expelled from his school for criticizing the administration for not being green. The American university used to be the bastion of free expression, but is it now a haven for ridiculous speech rules? The show re-airs tonight at midnight EST; Friday at 10pm EST; Saturday at 9pm and midnight EST; and... continue reading »

The Most Loathsome Person in America?
Tonight, I do my FBN show (9pm) on political correctness. I’m opposed to it – but is there some limit? Ann Coulter takes being un-PC pretty far. One paper called her “The Most Loathsome Person in America” for comments like:
"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh … he did not go to the New York Times building." "John Edwards… you have to go into rehab if you use the word "faggot".” “Katie Couric… the affable Eva Braun of morning TV.”... continue reading »
