This Week’s Column: Spontaneous Order
It’s natural to assume that life needs to be planned – that without planning, we would have chaos. But there’s a difference between the plans individuals make for our own lives and central planning by government. In my column this week, I steal an idea from economist Dan Klein, and use the example of a skating rink:
You are our Ruler... continue reading »

Egypt’s Real Problem
While pundits bicker about Obama’s response to Egypt, economist Hernando De Soto identifies one source of Egypt’s problems: weak property rights and absurd regulations. Bad law has forced most of Egypt’s private-sector workers into the black market. That keeps them in poverty... continue reading »

Free Market Vs. Government Rail
Tonight, President Obama will propose a five year budget freeze. Yippee. Except that it won’t affect Medicare. Or Social Security. Or the military. And current levels of spending are the highest ever. I don’t want to freeze spending. The feds plan to spend 3.8 trillion dollars this year. That’s nuts. I want to cut! So on my show tonight, I’ll list some of the departments and programs that government should eliminate. Just one example is Amtrak, which has lost money every year since it was created in 1971. Let the free market work. It’s worked for freight rail... continue reading »

Let Markets Civilize Airport Security
The government says it may fine one young man $11,000 for leaving the airport without “permission.” He didn’t want to be scanned by the invasive new scanners, and he didn’t want the TSA touching his “junk.” When they’re not touching your junk, the TSA makes children cry. Now Bill O’Reilly demands that I provide my “solution,” or endorse his. I admit, I don’t know the best solution... continue reading »

Are Union Thugs Bankrupting America?
This Friday at 10pm, Fox News will broadcast my heated argument with NYC Transit Worker’s Union President John Samuelsen. It’s part of my special, “The Battle for the Future.” Samuelsen, of course, argues that its ridiculous for me to say that “union thugs are bankrupting America.” We also have a confrontational exchange about sick days. I said: “One fourth of your workers took more than 15 sick days. In the private sector, they wouldn’t last long doing that.” He responded, “About 25% of our work force are women... continue reading »

“Battle” to air October 15 at 10pm ET
“Battle” to air October 15 at 10pm ET I finally get to air a Fox News special in “prime” time! The “Battle for the Future” will air Friday, October 15. Here’s a summary: Let's face it: The news is ugly. Big government keeps growing. The Federal government alone now spends $10,000 per American, pushing our debt to more than $13 Trillion. Total government spending eats up 40% of the economy!... continue reading »

Another Useless Republican
I really wanted to like Linda McMahon. I wanted to like the Connecticut Senate Candidate even though I once sued her (I guess I actually sued the sleazy business she and her husband run) because one of her wrestlers beat me up... continue reading »
