This Week's Show: Who is Herman Cain?
Continuing my pledge to devote full hours to presidential candidates, my FBN show this week features Herman Cain.
Who is Herman Cain?
I showed a picture of Cain to people in Times Square, and most had no idea who he was. People guessed he was "a reverend," "someone from Good Morning America," and "a teacher." But he is a serious candidate. A Gallup poll found he has a higher positive intensity score than all of the other candidates... continue reading »

Tonight's Show: On the Road to Serfdom?
When FA Hayek wrote The Road to Serfdom, almost all the smart people -- the political leaders -- believed that socialism was best.
National planning, they said, was just more efficient. You get the smartest people together in a room and they lay out a plan that everyone will follow. Reminds me of Obamacare. Wise leaders will provide a central plan for all of us. That is the route to equality and prosperity.

This Weeks Show: Declaration of Independents
What's your political affiliation?
Republican? Democrat?
Or are you an independent?
Most said " independent" when we asked people outside my office.
In their new book, "Declaration of Independents," Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch from Reason say that independents with libertarian politics are on the rise, and they can fix what's wrong with America. Why? Because everything in our culture is being democratized, and the parts of America free from government control are getting better.

Where Did All the Anti-War Protestors Go?
The anti-war movement was all over the news before President Obama was elected. But apparently they weren’t really anti-war ... they were just anti-President Bush. Two college professors just released a study of national protests between 2007 and 2009. What did they find?
… After January 2007, the attendance at antiwar rallies roughly the tens of thousands, or thousands, through the end of 2008... continue reading »

Watching the Watchmen
Police officers have unusual powers. They can arrest you, shoot you. I’d think it would be important to have a video record of their behavior. But in the last few years -- in more than a dozen states -- citizens have been threatened, detained, or arrested after recording the police... continue reading »

A Privacy "Bill of Rights"?
Last week, Senators John Kerry and John McCain introduced the “Commercial Privacy Bill of Rights Act”, claiming that internet privacy is a “fundamental right of American citizens.” I thought fundamental rights were in the Bill of Rights. I didn’t see this one there, so I’m going to make this the “Boring, But Important” section on my FBN show this week... continue reading »

Makers vs. Takers
Tax Day approaches. It’s the one day of the year when we most feel the intrusiveness of government. They take from us…but to do they make anything? Who really makes the nation prosperous? Government…or entrepreneurs?... continue reading »

This Week's Show: Students Who Get It!
When I went to Princeton in 1969, my professors taught me that government could solve the world's problems. I believed. So did most students. It's intuitive to think that if you put the smartest people in a room and give them enough taxpayer money, they will have the best shot at fixing the country's problems. As a student, I heard nothing about an alternative... continue reading »

"Live Free or Die"
Last Thursday on my FBN show, I reported on the Free State Project. That's the group of libertarians who commit to move to New Hampshire in an effort to create a real libertarian state. I used New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die," for my show title. I said it came from Patrick Henry's, "Give me Liberty or Give me Death." I was wrong.
Sandra Lawton writes:
Live Free or Die, our state motto was a quote from General John Stark! Not Patrick Henry! He said, "Live Free or Die. Death is not the worst of evils." I know... continue reading »

Rand Paul's Toilets Don't Work
Normally on my TV show, we focus on big assaults on Freedom, like the $14 Trillion Debt; the crippling rules that politicians pass; the authoritarian laws... continue reading »
