Political conventions make me cringe--so much pomp and grandstanding...so little substance. But we watch--so you don't have to.
Our new special Correspondent Kennedy is in Tampa, covering Republicans from a libertarian perspective.
After Romney speaks, Reason TV's Nick Gillespie, Mark Meckler of Citizens for Self-Governance, and Hadley Heath from the Independent Women's Forum will discuss what the Republican plan means for free markets...and free people.
If you're watching the convention as you read this, we're still taking questions and comments on my Facebook page. I'll read some during the show.

This Week's Show -- December 5, 2013
Hollywood has undergone "mission creep"--- actors don't just want to entertain us, many now want to fix the world!
HYPOCRITES: It's nice that they have a cause that they believe in. Except... many are hypocrites! After a celebrity anti-gun PSA aired, someone added clips of what those actors have done in their films.
CLUELESS: Some actor-activists are just clueless. Leonardo DiCaprio told a reporter he wants to take a long break from acting to "fly around the world doing good for the environment." Fly around the world? Doesn't he get that one plane ride spews more carbon than thousands of incandescent light bulbs? It's as if they live in a separate, stupid world.
ANTI- CAPITALISTS: Capitalism is apparently a curse to some celebrities: "the C-word". ... apparently it's a curse. Hollywood vilifies capitalism in movies... capitalists create killer viruses, sacrifice people to aliens, spread leukemia, chop down the last rain forest and poison people. And yet, Hollywood thrives because of capitalism. They may sneer at profit but they sure do chase it!
CLOSET LIBERTARIANS: Maybe there are conservatives and libertarians in Hollywood... but they are in the closet. They keep it secret. Actor Kevin Sorbo tells Stossel that if you don't march in step with the other liberals in Hollywood, you may not get work. Maybe that's why it's well established stars like Vince Vaughn and Clint Eastwood who are willing to speak up. And performers like Drew Carey, who now works with Reason TV.
REAL OR FAKE: Sometimes celebrities do things that are so bizarre that if you didn't see or hear it, you wouldn't believe it was real---like Harrison Ford waxing his chest to "save the rainforest". Ford owns 7 airplanes!
STOSSEL'S TAKE: But why did Hollywood become so leftist? Stossel has some theories.
Since actors work for others, they rarely have to deal with the big government burdens that smoother people who really innovate people who build a factory, or an apartment complex or jump through government hoops to invent a new medicine. Actors collect a paycheck. They don't have to fight bureaucrats. Their agents handle the details.
Finally, one more reason why Hollywood is so leftist: Acting is about connecting with people emotionally and emotion is what liberalism is about. It's not about studying data. To Stossel, America's coming entitlements bankruptcy is a math problem; it's just arithmetic. You add the numbers up and see disaster. But the emotional actor says, you want to limit our promised entitlements? "You want to kill grandma!" And they do a commercial depicting Paul Ryan pushing grandma off a cliff. Often they win... through these emotional appeals.
