Forbes just released a new ranking of the "World's Most Powerful People". President Obama tops the list, followed by three other prominent politicians: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The first entrepreneur, Bill Gates, is ranked fifth.
These world leaders do wield a great amount of power. They can use force.
I admire a different kind of leadership. Entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg (both ranked by Forbes) created jobs and brought new services to millions.
Business owners can't use force. If people don't like their products, they won't pay for it and the business fails. From that failure, new businesses emerge and give us other good things.
The political class may top Forbes' list, but I prefer the power of entrepreneurs and markets.
