Record highs? Not a Problem
Newark, Philadelphia, and Baltimore all reached historic temperatures over the weekend. New York City, where I live, reached 104 degrees .
Despite these dangerous temperatures, most people aren't suffering.
That's because capitalism has made it possible for almost everyone, even poor people, to have air-conditioning and refrigerated food.
A new report from the Heritage Foundation found that 99.7% of poor people in the United States have refrigerators and 74.7% have air-conditioning.
As this video points out, "Today, we all enjoy things that are vastly superior to what the richest people in the world owned just a short while ago. "
Poor people today are better equipped to handle high temperatures than rich people were a century ago. Free markets improve life for everyone.
