In Tulare, California, officials shut down seven-year-old Daniela Earnest’s roadside lemonade stand. She was trying to raise money to send her family to Disneyland. But the city code enforcer didn’t like the fact that Daniela’s stand was near a busy intersection. And horrors, the lemonade stand didn’t have the proper permits!
The entrepreneurial little girl even appealed her own case before the town council. They rejected her appeals. But at least someone felt that she deserved praise: a local radio station gave her four free passes to Disneyland in exchange for 30 glasses of lemonade.
There’s no business that’s too small for government to torture.
