Everything is Rationed
I criticize Democrats when they talk about health care like it’s a free lunch. Republicans deserve criticism when they say that Democratic reforms will “lead to” rationing. They don’t acknowledge that there already is rationing by Medicare, Medicaid…as well as by private insurance companies. (I’m also guilty of this from time to time.)
Republicans often suggest that under the current system, there isn’t rationing. What do they think happens under Medicare? What do they think will happen when the deficits from Medicare’s $30 Trillion unfunded liability start to become more acute?
I reported on the looming Medicare crisis earlier this year:
When Republicans were in power, they did little to address the insolvency of Medicare, aside from adding to the burden with a new prescription drug entitlement.
Everything is rationed. The real issue is who does the rationing? Government, insurance companies…or individuals? Let’s have a system where individuals are free to make their own choices about their own care.
