United Continental Holdings Inc.'s United Airlines said late Tuesday its June consolidated traffic in terms of revenue per passenger miles rose 3.4% and consolidated capacity increased 5% compared with June 2016. "Last month's performance capped off an exceptional first half for our operation, and we look to continue this momentum through the second half of the year and beyond," President Scott Kirby said in a statement. United said it expects second-quarter 2017 consolidated passenger unit revenue to be up about 2% compared with the second quarter of 2016, the midpoint of the company's original guidance range of 1% to 3%. With the exception of the Pacific region, which has experienced "incremental weakness in the quarter due to unfavorable supply and demand dynamics in China and Hong Kong," all regions performed in-line to slightly better than initial expectations, United said. Shares of United turned higher after the news and were recently up 1.3% after ending the regular trading session down 1.7%.
