Amazon.com Inc. said Thursday that it is installing solar panels on the roofs of fulfillment facilities around the world. The e-commerce giant plans to add the panels to more than 15 fulfillment and sortation centers in the U.S. this year, and will install them on 50 facilities globally by 2020. Depending on the project, time of year, and other factors, Amazon said the solar panels can generate up to 80% of a fulfillment center's annual energy needs. Amazon has a network of wind and solar farms in Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Its largest wind farm to date is in Texas. Amazon shares are up 0.2% in premarket trading, and up 47% for the past year. The S&P 500 index is up 20.6% for the last 12 months.
