NEW YORK – The U.S. stock market began the week generally lower, pausing after a rally last week sent the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average to record levels. In the absence of economic data investors focused on mergers and acquisition news, such as a deal between Tyson Foods and Hillshire Brands Co . The S&P 500 opened a point lower at 1,948.40. The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened down 6 points at 16,918.37. The Nasdaq Composite began the day less than a point higher at 4,222.81.
