SAN FRANCISCO – Tech stocks rose Friday morning, as a surge on shares of Google lifted the sector along with other big Internet names. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.5% to 3,883 while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index slipped 0.5%. Google shares jumped more than 10% to $979.28 after the Web search giant beat Wall Street’s forecasts with third quarter earnings that rose 36% from the same period last year. Facebook shares rose more than 3% while Yahoo rose 1.6%. Advanced Micro Devices shares fell nearly 13% after the chip maker's own third-quarter results on Thursday afternoon. The results and forecasts topped Wall Street's estimates, but analysts said investors may have been expecting a bigger "beat" given the coming launch of new gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft next month that use AMD chips.
