LOS ANGELES – Stocks in Hong Kong swung between small gains and losses Thursday in early trade, with a mixed performance within the financial sector. The Hang Seng Index was up 6 points at 23,040.20, as HSBC Holdings PLC edged up 0.1% while Agricultural Bank of China Ltd. shed nearly 0.1%. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index picked up 0.1% at 10,510.50. Property stocks were also mixed, with Henderson Land Development Co. off 0.3% as the company reportedly mulls reimbursing stamp duties to property buyers in an effort to spur sales. But shares of Lenovo Group Ltd. were standout advancers in Hong Kong, up 0.9% as the top PC vendor in the U.S. saw year-over-year sales growth of 2% during the third quarter, according to IDC. On the mainland, Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.3% to 2,204, facing its first decline in five sessions.
