While the S&P 500 grew 0.1%, the Financial sector (XLF) showed little movement during trading today.
As a proxy for the sector, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLF was up 3.2% over the last thirty trading days. The S&P 500, in comparison, went up 2.8%.
United Community Bancorp (UCBA) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 13.3% (+85 cents) to close at $7.24 with 1,500 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $7.24 to $7.24.
WellPoint (WLP) rose 7.7% to close at $61.80, cross its 50-day moving average of $58.12 and 200-day moving average of $64.38. Itau Unibanco (ITUB) declined 2.3% to close at $16.05, moving below its 50-day moving average of $15.95 and 200-day moving average of $16.49.
T Rowe Price (TROW) fell 1.1% to close at $61.38, moving down to 0.9% above its 200-day moving average of $60.83.
San Juan Basin Royalty (SJT) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 5.3% (-76 cents) to close at $13.63. 366,034 shares of the stock moved. Ocwen Financial Corporation (OCN) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $25.86 to top the previous high of $25.38.
