While being down today, the ETF, as a proxy for sector performance, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLI was up 1.8% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was down 2.8%.
Terex Corporation (TEX) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 6.4% (+$1.31) to close at $21.67 with 3.8 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $20.30 to $21.83. Astronics Corporation (ATRO) was another big mover, climbing $1.53 (+5.6%) to a closing price of $28.82.
EDAC Technologies Corporation (EDAC) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 5.2% (-78 cents) to close at $14.32, as 14,890 shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $14.23 to $15.22. Embraer (RSTI) fell 1.8% to close at $26.24, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $25.78. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $21.53.
Fortune Brands Home & Security (FBHS) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $25.60 to top the previous high of $25.25.
