During trading today, both the Health Care sector (XLV) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. At the start of trading today, XLV was down 0.2% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 2.1%.
Peregrine Pharmaceuticals (PPHM) was a major loser in the sector, falling 15% (-33 cents) to close at $1.87 with 6.6 million shares moving. The stock traded between $1.76 and $2.06.
Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT) was a significant gainer in the sector, rising 13.8%. The stock closed at $12.27 with 3.5 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $11.65 to $12.59. Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA) also gained today, climbing 68 cents (+7.9%) to close at $9.32.
ImmunoGen (IMGN) climbed 5.6% to close at $14.62, moving past its 200-day moving average of $14.22. Warner Chilcott (WCRX) declined 2.3% to close at $17.05, moving below its 50-day moving average of $17.42 and 200-day moving average of $17.74.
WellCare Health Plans (WCG) rose 1.7% to close at $56.42, approaching its 50-day moving average of $58.89. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $60.14. Genomic Health (BMRN) fell 1.8% to close at $34.70, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $34.44. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $37.14.
