During trading today, both the Financial sector (XLF) and the S&P500 showed little movement.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLF was up 2.5% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 2.1%.
Increasing 15.7% (+$1.01) to close at $7.45, Hudson City Bancorp (HCBK) was a major gainer in the sector. Today, 84.8 million shares traded hands. The stock traded in a range of $7.35 to $7.54. Share price is up $1.43 (23.8%) from $6.02 on July 27, 2012.

Assured Guaranty (TROW) fell 4% to close at $13.07, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $12.71. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $60.79.
M&T Bank (MTB) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $90.50 to top the previous high of $88.02.
