The Health Care sector (XLV) showed little change during trading today while the S&P 500 rose 0.6%.
The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. Entering today's trading, XLV was up 2.2% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 climbed 3.9%.
Kips Bay Medical (KIPS) was a major loser in the sector, falling 12.7% (-21 cents) to close at $1.44 with 41,157 shares moving. The stock traded between $1.35 and $1.69.
Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 6.9% (+70 cents) to close at $10.78 with 1.1 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $10.05 to $10.86. Amarin Corporation plc (AMRN) was another big mover, climbing 77 cents (+6.3%) to a closing price of $12.99.
Eli Lilly & (LLY) rose 3.4% to close at $43.86, cross its 50-day moving average of $43.07 and 200-day moving average of $41.43. Cutera (CUTR) declined 2.1% to close at $7.29, moving below its 50-day moving average of $7.08 and 200-day moving average of $7.66.
Hologic (HOLX) fell 1.6% to close at $19.46, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $19.16. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $19.00. Furiex Pharmaceuticals (FURX) rose 3.9% to close at $19, approaching its 50-day moving average of $19.41. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $19.14.
Watson Pharmaceuticals (WPI) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $83.83 to top the previous high of $81.
Arrhythmia Research Technology (HRT) hit a new 52-week low today, hitting $2.23 to fall below the previous low of $2.45.
