While the S&P 500 grew 0.6%, the Energy sector (XLE) showed little movement during trading today.
The ETF, as a proxy for the sector, tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. As trading began today, XLE was up 4.3% over the last thirty trading days, and the S&P 500 climbed 3.9%.
QEP Resources (QEP) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 6% (+$1.62) to close at $28.80 with 5.4 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $27.15 to $29.55. Similarly, Apco Oil & Gas International (APAGF) gained today, increasing 93 cents (+5.8%) to close at $16.87.
Rhino Resource Partners L.P (RNO) was one of the sector's big losers, as its price dropped 5% (-78 cents) to close at $14.68. 42,934 shares of the stock moved.
