Basic Materials Sector Wrap

During trading today, both the Basic Materials sector (XLB) and the S&P500 showed little movement.

Augusta Resource (AZC) was a major loser in the sector, falling 13.8% (-41 cents) to close at $2.57 with 382,777 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $2.57 to $2.94.

Silver Standard Resources (SSRI) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 5.9% (+74 cents) to close at $13.29 with 1.9 million shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $12.45 to $13.38. Over the last three months, the stock has gained $1.92 (16.9%) from a price of $11.37 on May 23, 2012.

ADA-ES (ADES) declined 2.9% to close at $23.14, moving below its 50-day moving average of $23.19 and 200-day moving average of $23.97. EnPro Industries (NPO) climbed 3.6% to close at $37.81, moving past its 200-day moving average of $37.21.

Greif (GEF) rose 1.8% to close at $41.87, approaching its 50-day moving average of $42.12. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $46.44. Harry Winston Diamond Corporation (HWD) fell 4.8% to close at $12.88, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $12.63. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $12.65.

Landec Corporation (LNDC) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $9.72 to top the previous high of $9.23.
