On a trading day that saw the S&P 500 gain 0.1%, the Health Care sector (XLV) showed little change.
Although it went in the opposite direction of the market today, the ETF tracked closer to the overall market today than over the past month. At the start of trading today, XLV was down 0.7% over the last thirty trading days while the S&P 500 was up 3.2%.
Pluristem Therapeutics (PSTI) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 12.6% (-60 cents) to close at $4.15, as 4.3 million shares moved. The stock traded between $4.07 and $5.
Clovis Oncology (CLVS) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 11.9% (+$1.92) to close at $18.11 with 58,999 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $16.09 to $18.18. ABIOMED (ABMD) and Brookdale Senior Living (BKD) also made significant gains in the sector.
Celgene (CELG) fell 1.6% to close at $69.11, crossing its 50-day moving average of $67.81. Meanwhile, Myriad Genetics (MYGN) climbed 4.9% to close at $25.38, moving past its 200-day moving average of $24.27.
Pernix Therapeutics Holdings (PTX) rose 9.2% to close at $7.01, approaching its 50-day moving average of $7.55. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $8.18.
Sirona Dental Systems (SIRO) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $55.42 to top the previous high of $52.52.
