The Health Care sector (XLV) showed little movement while the S&P 500 gained 0.7% during trading today.
BioMimetic Therapeutics (BMTI) was a major gainer in the sector, rising 15.2% (+53 cents) to close at $4.01 with 439,810 shares moving. The stock traded in a range of $3.45 to $4.03. Anacor Pharmaceuticals (ANAC) was another big mover, climbing 43 cents (+7%) to a closing price of $6.60.
Tranzyme (TZYM) was a major loser in the sector. Its price dropped 9.4% (-40 cents) to close at $3.84, as 20,958 shares moved. The stock traded in a range of $3.84 to $4.25.
St Jude Medical (STJ) declined 4.4% to close at $36.87, moving below its 50-day moving average of $38.10 and 200-day moving average of $39.00. HCA Holdings (HCA) rose 3.1% to close at $28.11, crossing its 50-day moving average of $27.31.
3SBio (SSRX) rose 4.5% to close at $11.86, approaching its 50-day moving average of $11.88. It has also moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $12.43. The Medicines Company (PRGO) fell 1.9% to close at $24.84, moving closer to its 50-day moving average of $24.38. Also, the stock moved closer to its 200-day moving average of $106.94.
Bio-Reference Laboratories (BRLI) hit a new 52-week high today, reaching $28.73 to top the previous high of $28.28.
